"Creativity Brewing: 30 Short Stories Hand-Roasted to Perfection" contains multiple cups of flash fiction stories of various genres. The author likens these tidbits as pick-me-ups, much like why we consume a quick cup of coffee. And not every coffee is the same either. The types of genres you will see in this anthology include: romance, fantasy, crime, thriller, scifi. With a strong sense of curiosity, I decided to check this out!

Enjoy a selection of flash fiction stories hand-roasted to perfection. Each story has been crafted to be your perfect pick-me-up. Whether you like light roast, medium roast, or dark roast, this collection serves it all!

A dyslexic astrophysicist is denied the chance to pilot the first lunar colony ship, only to become their only hope. A man confronts his brother, the murderer of his parents, and bad blood spills. In an exciting mini trilogy, the horrors of War is seen through the eyes of a child reading forbidden literature, then thrust into a battle for culture. In the end, he reflects through the dusty and forgotten past in order to illuminate a future for the next generation.

In a breathtaking collection of tales, Kevin Barrick guides you through humanity’s darkest and finest hours. These stories are more than just brief; they are generations of turmoil, pain, and excitement compressed into a single moment that resonates for days

"He was free. He was new. He was alive."

MY RATING: 4.5 Stars ( I round up on Amazon)

To start, I wanted to share that I read this in one sitting. Each story pulled me into its world so quickly, and it left me thirsty to discover more. At first I was hesitant about an anthology of flash fiction with various genres, and yet, their underlying themes seem to connect in the most brilliant way.
My top favorite short stories within were:
  • Rifts and Orange Orchards
  • My Lighthouse
  • The Boy Under the Banana Tree
  • Losing Control
  • Love's Shadow

Many of these are heart wrenching. Some made me think deeply about the human condition. This collection really draws us in as humans (despite some of the genres) and relive some emotion that modern day society seems to gloss over. I felt like I was living again.

Overall, this collection was relatively well written. The pacing varied from story to story; however, as an entire piece, I recommend this!

Best!
