Things That Inspire: A Review of Imagine Dragon's Evolve Tour

I have decided to expand my reviews, as my blog promotes: Dream. Write. Share. It's all about what inspires us, and this can be through any medium. Books. Art. Music. Role Models.

It dawned on me when I settled into the nosebleeds (tribute to my favorite Imagine Dragon song) that I was in for more than just a good time. I felt the warmth of creativity bubble within as I sat patiently waiting for the opening act. Was it indigestion? Possibly.

Imagine Dragons came out with a bang. With strong vocals and brilliant lights from clear triangle-shaped...things, the band played good, clean music. I hear some oldies and, of course, songs from their latest album, Evolve.

Dan Reynolds interacted with the crowd in many ways- from a sing-along to letting the fans choose their next performance. Fans sung along to "It's Time", "Demons", "On Top of the World", "Whatever it Takes", and much more.

It's very difficult to pull off a terrible concert; however, what made Imagine Dragons top my list of concerts were two things:

[1] The music was pure. There were lights, fog, etc, but you could clearly hear Dan's crisp, strong voice. There were guitar solos and creative drumming. When music is authentic such as theirs, I was inspired to bring this concept home, hoping I can bring the same originality to my books.

[2] Dan Reynolds is such a positive man. (I didn't know it until now). He took breaks from singing to talk to the audience. He first addressed his admiration for Boston Strong. Three of his band-mates graduated from Berkeley, while Dan is from Las Vegas. So, he took the time to connect with us on that level and promoted unity. He did not push any political agenda- he simply advocated for unity, acceptable, and equality for all.
Before playing "Demons", he also spoke to depression and anxiety. He wanted to banish the stigma, stating he has depression and has no shame in seeing his therapist. Dan sincerely asked those with depression and anxiety to not be afraid to seek help. I admired his honesty and ability to use his status to spread positive messages. This, too, inspired me.

The Evolve tour was everything I expected it to be- great music and a great time. I saw people of all ages enjoy themselves. The performance was near flawless, and I would recommend anyone to check them out if they ever come to your area.

And if their type of music isn't your style- seek out the music you like. It has a way of altering your mood in three minutes! Let music motivate you. Let music carry you forward....
